Photo info (metadata)

Compressed in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. Open-source libraries: mp4box.js, mp4-muxer, webm-muxer, gifenc, pdf-lib, lamejs (LGPL).

How to make a file smaller

  1. Choose or drop your files: videos, photos, PDFs, GIFs or audio. Add as many as you like.
  2. Pick a goal: Smallest, Balanced or Best quality, or a target size such as 10 MB for email.
  3. Drag the before/after slider to check the quality. Photos and PDFs update instantly; press Compress for videos.
  4. Download each file, save it to Photos, or download everything as one ZIP.

What Zebra Compress does

  • Every kind of file

MP4 and MOV videos, JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC photos, PDFs, animated GIFs and MP3, WAV or M4A audio, all in one place.

  • Live before/after preview

A slider and side-by-side view at 100 % zoom, and a 3-second preview clip for videos before the full compression starts.

  • Target size

Need a file under 25 MB for email, 16 MB for WhatsApp or 100 KB for a form? Enter the limit and Zebra Compress finds the best quality that fits.

  • Smart quality search

Photos are compressed with a similarity check (SSIM) like mozjpeg tools, so you get the smallest file that still looks the same.

  • Private by design

Files are processed on your device. Photo metadata such as GPS location is removed unless you keep it.

  • Batch and ZIP

Compress up to 50 files at once and download them together as a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Is Zebra Compress free?

Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you compress.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device. Your videos, photos and documents never leave it, so it also works with private files.

Will my files lose quality?

Balanced keeps files looking the same: for photos it measures the similarity to the original and picks the lowest quality that still looks identical. Use the before/after slider at 100 % to check details yourself.

How much smaller will my files get?

Typical results: phone photos 60–85 % smaller, screenshots 50–80 %, phone videos 50–80 % (more with a lower resolution), scanned PDFs 40–90 %. Text-only PDFs and already compressed files shrink less.

What if a file can’t get smaller?

Then you get the original back and an honest note. Some files are already well compressed, and re-encoding them would only make them worse or bigger.

Does it work on iPhone?

Yes. Open the page in Safari, choose files from Photos or Files, and use “Save to Photos” or Download when they are ready. Keep the screen on while long videos are compressing.

Which formats are supported?

Videos: MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, MKV. Photos: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC (in Safari). Also PDF, GIF and audio (MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, FLAC, OGG). Videos are saved as MP4, which plays everywhere.
