How to compress video online

  1. Choose a video (MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM or MKV), or several.
  2. Pick Balanced, or set a target size such as 16 MB for WhatsApp or 25 MB for email.
  3. Check the 3-second preview with the before/after slider and the estimated size.
  4. Press Compress video, keep the page open, then download or save the MP4 to Photos.

Why use Zebra Compress

  • Exact target sizes

The bitrate is calculated from your size limit and the video length; if the encoder misses, a second pass corrects it.

  • Smart resolution

Long videos with a small size limit are scaled to 720p or 480p automatically, which looks far better than a blocky full-size video.

  • Preview before you wait

A 3-second clip from the middle shows the real quality and gives a measured size estimate.

  • iPhone videos

HEVC (H.265) MOV files from iPhone are converted to H.264 MP4, which plays on every device and website.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a video smaller for WhatsApp or email?

Choose Target size and tap 16 MB (WhatsApp) or 18 MB (email; Gmail allows 25 MB including encoding overhead). Zebra Compress picks the bitrate and resolution that fit.

Why is my video saved as MP4?

MP4 with H.264 video plays everywhere: phones, computers, WhatsApp, email and social networks. MOV and other formats are converted to it.

How long does it take?

Usually faster than the video plays on a recent phone or computer, because the browser uses the hardware video encoder. Keep the page open and the screen on until it finishes.

Is the sound kept?

Yes. The sound is copied as it is, or re-encoded smaller for tight size limits. You can also remove it under More options.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device. Your videos, photos and documents never leave it, so it also works with private files.

Does it work on iPhone?

Yes. Open the page in Safari, choose files from Photos or Files, and use “Save to Photos” or Download when they are ready. Keep the screen on while long videos are compressing.
