How to compress images without losing quality

  1. Choose or drop your photos, screenshots or graphics, or paste an image.
  2. Keep Balanced for the best size-to-quality ratio, or set a target size in KB or MB.
  3. Drag the slider at 100 % zoom to compare details with the original.
  4. Download the images one by one or all together as a ZIP.

Why use Zebra Compress

  • Quality search, not guesswork

Each photo gets its own quality setting, chosen by measuring how similar it stays to the original (SSIM).

  • PNG palette compression

Screenshots and graphics are reduced to 256 colours with dithering when they still look the same, like pngquant, and stay PNG with transparency.

  • HEIC from iPhone

In Safari, HEIC photos are converted to JPG automatically while they are compressed.

  • Location removed

GPS position, camera serials and other metadata are removed by default. Keep camera info if you want it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reduce the size of a JPG without losing quality?

Choose Balanced. It tries several qualities, compares each with the original and keeps the smallest file that looks the same. Big savings also come from a smaller Max size, e.g. Full HD for sharing.

Can I compress a PNG and keep transparency?

Yes. PNGs stay PNG with their transparency. Graphics with few colours are compressed losslessly; others get a 256-colour palette when it looks the same.

Is my photo’s location removed?

Yes, by default all metadata including GPS location is removed. Under More options you can keep camera info without the location, or keep both.

What if a file can’t get smaller?

Then you get the original back and an honest note. Some files are already well compressed, and re-encoding them would only make them worse or bigger.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device. Your videos, photos and documents never leave it, so it also works with private files.

Is Zebra Compress free?

Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you compress.
